MP3: Disco Ensemble - White flag for peace

Direct link: http://vimeo.com/9760261

I've long considered Disco Ensemble to be a bit too mainstream/polished for my tastes as far as punkrock goes, but I do dig this new single, especially the stuff with the octave pedal hammer-ons. And the rhythm section sounds remarkably burly too, a trait I can always appreciate. So yeah, no disrespect intended, but consider me pleasantly surprised. Even better to see it paired with an interesting video as directed by boss Sami Sänpäkkilä. Lots of great, awkward closeups and good movement. Not so sure I get the "plot" with the architect as played by Tero Jartti, but whatever -- it's still 1000x better than most of the schlock I see on a daily basis and it never overwhelms the performance shots. Also, if you want to know more, you can soak up the full technical details over at Sami's blog; yet another welcome attribute to said single/song/video.

Callisto sign with Paper Tiger for the US, many other Finnish acts follow

Finnish doom act Callisto has announced that Paper Tiger AV is their new North American label home. Look for their new album "Providence" to get a release over here on May 26.

Also, after looking at the label's website, it appears that Paper Tiger will be representing a number of other Fullsteam-affiliated bands in these parts such as Disco Ensemble and Rubik. The former will have their new EP "Back on the MF streets" released over here on May 26 and Rubik's debut "Bad conscience patrol" will follow on June 23 along with their most recent record "Dada bandits" soon thereafter.

New Disco Ensemble EP on the way

Disco Ensemble will be releasing a new EP on April 22 entitled "Back on the MF street" featuring four previously unreleased tracks and two remixes of "Bad luck charm" as done by both Them Shepherds and Mr. Velcro Fastener.

Lapko has sadly dropped off the Disco Ensemble tour halfway through, so they've cancelled their appearance at the upcoming IAT! Clubnight in Malmö later this month, but lucky for you we've got Blinders On stepping in to take their place. Expect a new 7" from those guys soon, too!

Finnish act Damn Seagulls are currently in the studio working on their third album which is due out sometime around February via Fullsteam Records. Jussi Jaakonaho will mix and Miikka Koivisto (Disco Ensemble) will help with vocal production. Expect the first single to surface later this month.

Extra, extra! Norway's Lukestar is now confirmed for the It's a Trap! Clubnight at Debaser Mamlö on November 29! Look for a support act to be named soon! Also note that Finnish acts Disco Ensemble and Lapko are playing on October 17 if you didn't already see it posted in the sidebar. Good times!
