Dark Dose follows my lead and posts a track from the mighty Eucharist: http://darkdose.com/?p=84

MP3: - Mirrorworld

This week's Friday oldie post comes from Eucharist, yet another hidden gem of the NWOSBD (new wave of Swedish black/death) scene of the mid-90s. The band never really had much of a steady lineup - they reportedly broke up for the first time before their debut "A velvet creation" was released in 1994, but they came back together again in '97 for "Mirrorworlds", the album from which today's song originates. Besides the above-average melodic death-metal songwriting, what I really love about this record is the drumming of Daniel Erlandsson who later went on to fame and glory with Arch Enemy. His playing here is absolutely superb and reinforced by the uncharacteristically clean recording. Everything is so clean and natural sounding - no annoying triggers, no unnatural reverb. All the instruments are clearly audible and perfectly balanced in the mix. It wouldn't be so unusual, but metal so rarely sounds this good.

A new issue of Aversionline means a huge batch of new reviews to pour through. Some of the Scandinavian acts covered this time around: The Change, Darkane, Dimension Zero, Eucharist, Gorgoroth, Naglfar, Nightrage, V:28, The Vectors, The Wake, the "Lyckantropen" DVD (ft. music and interview with Ulver) and tons more.

Added a new mp3 from Burst today, over on the right. They manage to combine melodic Swedish metal with hardcore in a way that actually works, as opposed to so many of the American bands who attempt to do the same. Good stuff. Is it just me, or is track five on the album totally sound like Eucharist?

Sweden's Regain Records is rereleasing six "classic" albums from the archives of WAR Music (Wrong Again Records) on October 1. The titles and details, straight from the label:

Naglfar - "Diabolical"
After being deleted for years this classic piece of metal is finally available again in a remastered version. Originally released in 1998, Naglfar's 2nd album is a milestone in the black/death genre! With the new album "Sheol" Naglfar has become one of the most hyped black/death metal bands in the scene.

Darkane - "Rusted Angel"
Remastered with 3 bonus songs. Originally released in 1998 technical death metal at its best. Darkane has through the years grown to a highly respected metal act, becoming one of the top acts in their style.

Carnal Forge - "Who's Gonna Burn"
Debut album from Sweden's Carnal Forge now remastered. Originally released in 1998. Their rawest album ever.

Defleshed - "Fast Forward"
Defleshed's 3rd album remastered with 4 bonus songs. This is the album that brought Defleshed to the level were they are now. Comes in an exclusive slipcase.

Dimension Zero - "Penetrations from the Lost World"
Originally released as a 4 song mini CD in 1998, finally available again with 7 bonus songs making it somewhat more substantial. Featuring 2 previously unreleased studio songs and 5 songs recorded live on their successful Japan tour 2002.

Eucharist - "Mirrorworlds"
Eucharist's 2nd album. The pioneers of Swedish melodic death metal.

I don't enough about all of these records to recommend 'em myself, except for the Eucharist disc which is a criminally overlooked classic of the genre. It features drummer Daniel Erlandsson before he went on to work with Arch Enemy and no fan of mid-90s blackened Swedish death metal should be without it.
