Kondens, the collaborative project of Swedish techno artists Andreas Tilliander and Stefan Thor aka Folie, will release their debut 12" EP "First cut" on September 29 via Kontra Musik. Said record will feature two original cuts plus a remix by German artist Norman Nodge and can be previewed at Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/kontramusik

Here is a record that you should be hearing in you favorite hip lounge with all you BCBG friend for a $12 martini after a long work week. A few years ago, this was all over the place with St-Germain and Plaid in every laid-back bar in town, now it might be better used as schmooze music at home. Honestly, Folie are pretty good at this downbeat/house thing and certainly more forward thinking than the aforementioned St-Germain. You won't see me paying $12 for a martini though.

I don't listen to a lot of electronic music, so I have to admit that I really don't have much of a vocabulary to discuss it. But I know what I like and I like Folie (aka Stefan Thor) and his new album "Eyepennies". It's a bit more intricate and straightforward than most of the other glitch/click + cut style stuff I like, but still messed up enough to appeal to me. Hey, I like the sound of machines being broken and abused. Folie is also masterful at adding subtle little melodies to his pieces. They aren't necessarily the kinds of tunes that you'll hum along with, but they're nice just the same. Today's mp3 that I'm posting stands out from the rest of the songs on the record because it swings. Obviously it's not like the jazzy big-band stuff that Foetus sometimes does, but it's always good to hear something besides the usual 4/4.

I got a copy of this record last week and have been really diggin' it quite a bit more than I expected. Glitchy techno with enough pop melody to gain more widespread appeal. Perhaps I'll even post a track myself eventually.

Tyskarna från Lund will release a special new single called "Kniven, gaffeln, skeden" on September 15. The track features accompanyment from the Svenska Kocklandslaget (the Swedish Culinary Team) and is the official Swedish hymn for the Culinary Olympics 2004 (!!!) in Erfurt, Germany on October 17-20. The disc will also include the exclusive b-side "Klötzodizian venue menu III" which is described as 'an experiment in French house, sort of' alongside two remixes by Swedish electronic artist Folie.
