Norwegian misanthropic hardcore act Haust is back in the studio recording their 2nd album. The band also plans on doing a split 7" with countrymen Succuba sometime before the end of the year.

Fysisk Format (Haust, Snöras) will be putting out the new album "Soft clicks" from Norwegian melodic hardcore act Death Is Not Glamorous on December 8. Preview here: http://fysiskformat.tigernet.no/?cmd=12
UK-based label Dead and Gone Records will be handling the vinyl and the band will be heading over there for a batch of shows immediately following the release:

If you're into sludgy, evil music do not pass this up! It's pretty damn expensive for us Americans and our weak dollar, but I'm excited to get it.

MP3: Haust - Ride the relapse

In terms of mood, this is the exact opposite of yesterday's post. I've been stoked on all the samples I've heard of Haust for awhile, but only just recently managed to track down mp3s of "Ride the relapse". I originally planned on picking up a CD at their ill-fated show in CPH, but it wasn't meant to be, though it appears to be working out for the best in the end since I'm much more excited about grabbing a copy on vinyl when it's released next month. But enough of my product fetishism, let's talk music! As Aversionline pointed out not too long ago, the band takes a myriad of influences and twists it into some of the most vicious hardcore sludge I've heard in awhile. I've talked a bit about how I feel like bad vibes are the new zeitgeist and this is the perfect illustration as far as I'm concerned. What better way to describe the dystopian state of the world than with this sort of harsh noise? The more I pay attention to the news, the better this sounds. Ride the relapse, indeed! Get with the times and get angry.

Haust - Ride the relapse

The new Haust album "Ride the relapse" will be coming out on 180g vinyl in August.

I may not have been able to see Haust last night, but Aversionline does have a review up on their new album: http://www.aversionline.com/blahg/2008/06/17/haust-ride-the-relapse-cd/

MP3: Like Rats From A Sinking Ship - Smash the crystal larynx!

Yesterday's adventure started off nice enough. My hosts and I walked a bit around Malmö in the AM, stopping in at Rundgång to say hello to the Deleted Art crew and such and also stopping to eat some of (what I'm told to be is) Malmö's famous falafel. From there it was off to Copenhagen for a quick trip through the national museum and then a rendezvous with Stytzer from Hits in the Car which meant enjoying a beer on the harbour. See- so far, everything was very, very nice. We even managed to find a decent restaurant for a proper dinner before exploring Christiania and heading to Loppen to see Norwegian act Like Rats From A Sinking Ship. Nothing really bad happened to us I guess, but the other band Haust canceled the show so that meant there were only 18 or so people in attendance. And then there's the Like Rats tour story: robbed twice in 4 days, freaked out and camping in the woods for 3 days, a broken kick pedal. All things considered, they took it in stride and put on a great show, but I think their bad luck rubbed off on us as our train back to Sweden broke down, making our trip home take 3x as long as it should've. Not a nice way to end the evening, y'know? Anyhow, the music of LRFASS is raw, discordant hardcore interspersed with little electronic bits not too unlike "Shape of punk..."-era Refused. Also, the best use of theramin in hardcore I've ever seen. Obviously I haven't had a lot of time to absorb their debut release "Sxy Sxy Gsw EP" yet, but here's a track that I like, especially the slower coda part. Good times!

The excellent Oslo-based record store Tiger, one of Norway's only mailorders that ships internationally, is starting up a record label called Fysisk Format. Coming up first will be a split LP featuring Eskatol and Black Blood World followed by new CDs from crusties Haust and Snöras. As for the future, look for a new 7" from Norwegian rockers Silver and the long-awaited album "Shadows" from hardcore act Kaospilot. More info: http://fysiskformat.tigernet.no/

Norwegian sludgecore band Haust will release their debut full-length album "Ride the relapse" on June 16 via Fysisk Format Records. Hear samples: http://www.myspace.com/haust
