\"Lush\" appears to be my word of the month, but I can\'t find a better one for Jettie\'s newest effort. \"Start/stop\" is our introduction to \"Kites for charity\", and the composition exemplifies what Jettie are capable of at the top of their game: a driving, thickly melodic journey laden with warm synths, delay-heavy guitars, and a splendid voice settling perfectly into the mix. The energy of \"Start/stop\" is succinctly kept up by the following tracks, enamoring the listener even further with the act\'s capabilities and wondrous control of augmented pop melodies. Where previous album \"Heading for mornings\" had its beautiful, slower compositions, \"Kites for charity\" revels in its ability to keep a resilience in more up-tempo works, measuring itself only occasionally -- most notably in the gorgeously placid \"Carraria Via\", but the album quickly regains tempo with the following track, \"The sky over Santa Rosa\". Overall, \"Kites for charity\" is exactly what we\'ve come to expect from Jettie -- layered, beautiful Scandinavian pop music with as much brains as it has heart.

Opening with the ambitious \"Lifeache\", a track combining the Britpop sensibility of James with the soaring, cinematic approach of bands like Hope of the States and The Boxer Rebellion, Markovic effortlessly combine their melodic leanings with dark arrangements, laying out a thesis-of-sorts for the album to follow. \"MakeBeliever\" forces its way out of the layered ending of \"EMO\"; drumming reminiscent of Bloc Party\'s faster compositions accompanying the wiry, distorted opening, and building to the fuller sound that defines Markovic\'s \"Adoreus\". While there is much for anglophiles to rejoice in on the record, Markovic haven\'t in any way rejected their Scandinavian standing. \"Crayons\" has an \"Isola\"-era Kent feel to it, and numerous other songs seem indebted, if only slightly, to the influence of Jettie and Mew, especially the closing pair \"Poem\" and \"Sweet surrender\". Markovic\'s debut almost outlines the organic progression of the melancholy of the mid-90s into the pop music of today, yet \"Adoreus\" merely reminds us of previous and contemporary efforts, and is in no way hindered by these comparisons. There are echoes of the Britpop scene and 90s Swedish indie rock (and the \'older\' feel of the production on \"Adoreus\" helps augment this nostalgic element), but echoes are all they are - Markovic are very much their own being. If this is what they are capable of on their first record, Markovic has a wonderful career ahead of them.

Perfectly produced, effortlessly executed, and deftly crafted, \"Fractures\" is almost an archetype indie-electro-pop record. Listening to tracks like \"A3DM\" and \"Old new bridges\" I want to give this record a 9/10, but a few of the tracks on the album verge on becoming overly sugary. This is not to suggest these sweet sections do not work; they do – I just am far more affected by the slower, thoughtful, almost mournful moments of The Domus\' songwriting. Overall, \"Fractures\" is quite an album, even in its more playful moments. An interesting and eclectic mix of influences and interests, sometimes reflecting along similar tangents to lablemates Jettie, and other times almost approaching the mischievous tone of Juvelen, this isn\'t a record that should be overlooked. Kasual Recordings has always had an ear for great talents – The Domus are a great addition to their accomplished roster.

10 best Swedish "music cities" and the bands that made it happen: (No specific order)

01. Göteborg - Silverbullit, Audrey, TSOOL, the Tough Alliance and a thousand of others showed the rest of Scandinavia which city that is the music city #1
02. Uppsala - Jeniferever, the bombastic beauty of music comes from these guys.
03. Malmö - Scraps of Tape, Swedish post rock may have a future.
04. Umeå - Isolation Years, KVLR, Koma, Cult of Luna - do I need to say more?
05. Västerås - Seven Feet Four - one of the most explosive live performances I saw this summer.
06. Haninge - Suburban Kids With Biblical Names, Ellis the Vaccumchild and Tubular Bells all gave less or more to the Swedish indie scene.
07. Gränna - Patrik Torsson's "Kolvätesserenader" was the bomb! Now he's getting more explosives ready.
08. Stockholm - Tiger Lou, Tiger Lou, Tiger Lou - wherever we went this summer. And all the other singer & songwriters seem to be located in Sweden's main city.
09. Eskilstuna - Jettie "Heading for mornings" kept me warm.
10. Luleå - Mattias Alkberg BD, and Mattias the Bear Quartet - all time favorites! Park Hotell will also contribute

Best concerts:
01. Totalt Jävla Mörker, Hultsfredsfestivalen
Without any doubt one of Sweden's best liveacts, true agony from Skellefteå.
02. The Bronx, Hultsfredsfestivalen
Insane
03. Teddybears STHLM, Gatufesten (Sundsvall)
I was kind of surprised, I'm not a huge fan of Teddybears, but their liveshow this summer was excellent, two drummers can never be wrong.....
04. Cult of Luna, Augustibuller (Lindesberg)
Another incredible band from the northern parts of Sweden
05. Seven Feet Four, Fritz's Corner @ Debaser
Still waiting for their breakthrough, great songs, great show, brilliant band.

Best things:
01. My soulmate Lina
No comments...
02. Timrå IK
Zetterberg, Kiprusoff, Berg, NHL-lockout rules.
03. Leif Karate
My band Leif Karate's debut album "Let's back the wrong band" will be out pretty soon, watch out!

Crappy stuff:
01. Raymond & Maria, concert @ The Rookie festival in Hultsfred.
Boring & ugly, nobody liked it either.
02. Winter in Stockholm
There is no winter in Stockholm.

It's been awhile since we heard anything from them, but it seems that Kasual Records is on the comeback trail for 2004. Firstly, they'll be putting out the album "On Tahoe" from Norway's Beezewax in January. The record is said to be "a must-have for fans of Teenage Fanclub, Big Star, Buffalo Tom" and was recorded by Pelle Gunnerfeldt (Fireside, The Hives, Sahara Hotnights). There's also quite a bit coming up for label mainstay Ariel Kill Him. As mentioned here before, the first record "In the Pyramid" is being licensed for a US release by NYC's Eyeball Records for March. The band will also be putting out a six-track all-exclusive EP called "Labyrinths" in February or March on Kasual. And that's not all - they've even got plans for a split EP with Greece's Relevant Box on Librarian Records in early 2004. Both bands will contribute three songs and one video each. Here's AKH's half:01. The Money Shot (previously featured on the limited Kasual sampler)02. So? (prev. unreleased)03. Under the Influence (prev. unreleased)There's nothing definitive set for the rest of the roster yet, but they say to watch out for new releases from Buck, Ides of Space, Jettie and The New Mess at some point next year.

The full statement from singer Per Stalberg:I'm very sorry to say Division of Laura Lee cancels Coachella festival + additional dates in the U.S.Due to the fact that I've been suffering from grave throat-infection, coughing for the last three weeks and have been totally feeble in my body. I've been having fever for the last weeks and as I went to the doctor today for the second time in two days he adviced/ordered me to cancel the trip to U.S. as I need to recover from my illness, or this will lead to further injuries & I would seriously risk my health.I'm indeed very sorry that we need to cancel, not only due to all the fans that bought tickets to our upcoming shows, but also it feels unfortunate towards my band comrades Hakan, Jonas & David, as they also were very excited on coming back to the U.S. on tour & especially excited about Coachella festival, meeting a lot of new people, receiving new vibes. We'll definitely be back in the U.S. and by this fall we'll record our second album which will turn out to be The master-piece [sic]. Again I'm sorry that we had to cancel the tour, we'll be back soon.I also want to take the chance & say THANKS to all the people that came out to our shows, bought our records and supported us in amazing letters, emails, phone-calls, live-conversations, it's been the year of my dreams. We'll recover and come back more powerful than you could ever imagine.Take careEarache Records has posted the uncensored 'controversial' video for the song "D.O.A." from The Haunted on their website. From nubreaks.com via the pHinnweb mailing list:Riku Pentti aka Infekto comes from Finland, and when I say Finland, I mean right up in the north of Finland where it is bloody cold!. I remember travelling to a gig he was doing where we guested and it was one helluva mission to get there. Bandits on the road ready to rob you. Big ugly bears taking potshots with their paws at passing cars. Police openly taking bribes for you to proceed on your journey. Naked women just dancing in the undergrowth smeared in Marmite... okay, that was all crap, but it still was quite a drive!!!Read the full interview: www.nubreaks.com/?dir=features/infeat0406&section=infekto_feature. Some interesting discussion on the Finnish electronic music scene, among other things.

The full statement from singer Per Stalberg:
I'm very sorry to say Division of Laura Lee cancels Coachella festival + additional dates in the U.S.
Due to the fact that I've been suffering from grave throat-infection, coughing for the last three weeks and have been totally feeble in my body. I've been having fever for the last weeks and as I went to the doctor today for the second time in two days he adviced/ordered me to cancel the trip to U.S. as I need to recover from my illness, or this will lead to further injuries & I would seriously risk my health.
I'm indeed very sorry that we need to cancel, not only due to all the fans that bought tickets to our upcoming shows, but also it feels unfortunate towards my band comrades Hakan, Jonas & David, as they also were very excited on coming back to the U.S. on tour & especially excited about Coachella festival, meeting a lot of new people, receiving new vibes.
We'll definitely be back in the U.S. and by this fall we'll record our second album which will turn out to be The master-piece [sic]. Again I'm sorry that we had to cancel the tour, we'll be back soon.
I also want to take the chance & say THANKS to all the people that came out to our shows, bought our records and supported us in amazing letters, emails, phone-calls, live-conversations, it's been the year of my dreams.
We'll recover and come back more powerful than you could ever imagine.
Take care
Earache Records has posted the uncensored 'controversial' video for the song "D.O.A." from The Haunted on their website.
From nubreaks.com via the pHinnweb mailing list:
Riku Pentti aka Infekto comes from Finland, and when I say Finland, I mean right up in the north of Finland where it is bloody cold!. I remember travelling to a gig he was doing where we guested and it was one helluva mission to get there. Bandits on the road ready to rob you. Big ugly bears taking potshots with their paws at passing cars. Police openly taking bribes for you to proceed on your journey. Naked women just dancing in the undergrowth smeared in Marmite... okay, that was all crap, but it still was quite a drive!!!
Read the full interview: www.nubreaks.com/?dir=features/infeat0406&section=infekto_feature.
