If you're into brutal old-school-favored death metal ala 2009's brilliant Obliteration LP "Nekropsalms", you'll probably want this too.
Obliteration's much sought-after album "Nekropsalms" is finally getting a domestic US release via : http://www.forcefieldrecords.org/store/
Copies are limited so if you missed it last time, you better get on it now. It's a modern classic.
Looks like will be doing a much-needed repress of Obliteration's stellar "Nekropsalms" LP: http://www.tigernet.no/shop/release.php?code=131264
Hopefully all the people who have been emailing me wanting copies of the long sold-out pressing on will be able to grab it.
has picked up Kolbotn death metal masters Obliteration as well as fellow Norwegians Insense. Look for a new record from the former in the fall, the latter this coming spring.
Live Evil is the underground metal festival happening in London this weekend featuring bands who have all had the honor of being selected as one of Fenriz's bands of the week. Like many folks, I am unable to attend, but lucky for us someone put together a mix with tracks from every act: http://afistinthefaceofgod.blogspot.com/2010/10/fist-in-face-of-god-presents-live-evil.html
Quite a few Scandinavian names worth noting there, including Sonic Ritual, Deathhammer, Obliteration, Hooded Menace, Nekromantheon, Ghost...
Obliteration will be doing a few UK dates supporting Ramesses in addition to performing at the Live Evil Festival:
10/21 - Trillians, Newcastle
10/22 - The Asylum 2, Birmingham
10/23 - The Underworld (Live Evil), London
Swedish death metal act Miasmal will be making their long-awaited live debut at the upcoming Kill-Town Death Fest in Copenhagen on September 16. Other bands performing at said fest include Obliteration, Nominon, Ascended, Corpus Mortale, Maim, Vorum and tons more, including great non-Scandinavian acts such as Bloody Sign (FRA), Anatomia (JAP) and Dead Congregation (GRE) -- pretty much every top-level non-American death act. Full details here: http://www.killtowndeathfest.dk/

Bloody helvete! We all knew that Norwegian punk-laden thrashers Waklevören had it in them to create an absolute killer of an album, but until "De dødes arkiv" hit the streets, we had no idea just how much of a napalm blast it would create. This, their third release, is their best and most varied yet. It's got the hardcore, fuck-everything attitude they're known for, but it's so strong now that it just oozes from the speakers, leaving no doubt that this is truly genuine metal played with absolute passion.
You could maybe class Waklevören as the quintessential anti-supergroup. Comprising members of Red Harvest, Immortal, Aura Noir, Fuck You All and Infernö, they have every right to demand respect but, the fact is, they really don't give a damn. It's obvious in this, their heaviest record so far, that it has been a case of "Let's drink a shitload of beers and jam out some brutal hardcore thrash. If they like it, fair enough. If they don't, who cares!?" There's not much point in trying to single out highpoints on here as there's not a dull moment to be had. And the fact is, that if you're into the kind of filthy vehemence spewed by the likes of countrymen Obliteration or Sweden's crustcore kings Skitsystem, you'll absolutely adore this. It might be a bold statement, but I'd even go so far as to say that this is possibly the best album released that falls under that crusty, punky thrash umbrella. If ever there was an essential album within a particular genre, this is it. Having reviewed hundreds of albums over the years, I must also point out that this is the first I've ever given full marks to. Why? Just buy the fucking thing and find out!
