Starflower confirms new album, single

Finnish indiepop act Starflower has confirmed that their sophomore album "Ceasefires" will be released in February via KHY Suomen Musiikki Oy. The first single "You king" comes out next month.

Finnish indiepop act Starflower has licensed their album "Moment in the sun" to Silent Agreement for release in Taiwan and Hong Kong this coming June.

I wrote in my IAT review that Starflower songs sound too much alike, but lucky for them, it's a good sound. "Dance till morning light" from their debut record "Moment in the sun" is probably the best song on their record, a disposable yet imminently loveable pop song about a girl living in the now who doesn't care, doesn't mind, just wants to dance till the morning light. It's more like a snack than a real meal with it's jingle jangle guitars and plaintive vocals, but I don't care and I don't mind because it's still really yummy.

First the bad news about this Finnish quartet -- they only have one song of which 10 variations appear on this record. The good news is that it's a really good song, so even though I keep checking to see if I've inadvertently repeated a number I just heard a few minutes ago, it's nonetheless a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Their sound is (to quote their website) "mellow and cheerful" pop reminiscent of Starlet that foregrounds singer Antti's mediocre yet appropriately earnest vocal delivery and bright guitars. I'll hope for more variety on their next record, but this marks a bright debut from a young band with a lot of promise.
