MP3: David Sandström Overdrive - Lisa, Lisa

Razzia Records was kind enough to pass along the brand new David Sandström Overdrive single "Lisa, Lisa" and naturally, I'm more than happy to share it with you. Like a lot of folks, I first became aware of David back when he was in Refused and have been following his career ever since, but of all the post-Refused bands, his solo work shines brightest. I have much respect for The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Text, Cobolt and so on, but they can't hold a candle to David's increasingly diverse catalog. From "Om det inte hånder..." aka The Grandfather Album to this, a slow dance number? Perhaps not so surprisingly when you consider that he now as AC4 as an outlet for his more aggressive side, though you gotta connect a lot of dots to span the difference. It doesn't really matter though 'cuz all it all depends on whether the song is good here and now and guess what? It is. I might be surprised somewhat by the content, but definitely not by the quality.

MP3: Text - Those kids are gone

Happy Friday everyone! This week's flashback post belongs to Matt Giordano:

For my first mp3 posting of an older track I chose "Those kids are gone" by Text. For those who are unaware, Text was a collective featuring most of the Refused members (Dennis being the one absent). Whilst most of the disc is spoken word, this track really sticks out. Not only is it the catchiest song on the record, but also because of its production quality. It's one of the rawest acoustic tracks I have ever heard, and David Sandström's melody is quite beautiful. And since this track was only performed by him, it, at the time, was giving you hints at what to expect from his solo work, as well as David Sandström Overdrive.

The whole album used to be available for free download at the Demonbox site, but the links are broken. However, you can still go there to read more about the band.

The multi-talented David Sandström (ex-Refused, Text) is getting ready to release a new solo album called "The dominant need of the needy soul is to be needed" in April and will counting down to its release via his new website: http://www.david-sandstrom.com/
Every Monday he'll be updating with live outtakes and song sketches for download as well as notes and lyrics for your perusal. He'll also be pictured with less clothes on as the big date approaches.

You've probably already heard some of the buzz surrounding new releases from the label Planekonomi, but let me refresh your memory. First, the new album "8-16" from Royal Downfall is out and should appeal to fans of Fugazi or At The Drive-In they say. Björn Olsson (TSOOL, UCP, etc) is currently mixing Mattias Alkberg BD's (Bear Quartet)'s solo 4-song EP "Med Spöken" and it should be ready for release early next year. Jon Brännström (ex-Refused, Text) is hard at work on his new project Jon F Kennedy, and should have a record ready for early 2004, too. "If you're into the whole Anticon scene this will blow you away," they say. Downloads are up at the Planekonomi site and look for potential annoucements of new signees soon, too.
