MP3: M:40 - När bomberna faller

So what if M:40 lives up to most every d-beat/crustcore cliché? Natty dreads, two vocalists (one screechy, one burly), lyrics decrying the sorry state of the system/world/life, and so on. It doesn't matter 'cuz the music is well-written, well-played and well-recorded. The genre doesn't really need anyone to push it forward; it was doing just fine with the Discharge blueprint before His Hero Is Gone came along, not to mention all of the Swedish legends such as Wolfbrigade/Wolfpack, Totalitär and Skitsystem. I admit I do get bored of everyone endlessly covering the same subjects in pretty much the exact same way (not to mention preaching to the choir), but when I hear a band play this stuff with a proper level of intensity, it's impossible for me to deny the appeal. Oh, and I fucking love that muted chug-chug/chug-chug-chug stuff. Cut the shit, start the pit!

Swedish hardcore act Kvoteringen (featuring members from Totalitär, Millencolin, Krigshot and tons more) recorded some new tracks over the weekend for an upcoming 7". More details to come, but in the meantime, listen to older material here: http://www.myspace.com/kvoteringen

MP3: Totalitär - Nej vi ska inte ha nåt

In case you didn't read my recent interview from Norrbottens-Kuriren (the thread is actually turning into an interesting discussion on an entirely different topic besides me me me), I've been listening to a ton of hardcore punk recently. Nothing too modern sounding either; it's pretty much all been no-frills 80s ragers or fierce d-beat like today's track from Totalitär. The band started in 1985 and they haven't really evolved very much at all since then, except that the recordings have gotten way better. If it ain't broke, why fix it, right? So the band's 3rd and final album "Vi är eliten" was just released by US label Prank Records and it's been in steady rotation here in my office ever since it arrived late last week, so I figured I should share a track with y'all. My pick: "Nej vi ska inte ha nåt" ("No we don't want anything"). Fast, furious and 100% killer.

Bridge Records has posted an update on the label's recent activity. Head on over for the full skinny, otherwise note the most important thing is that the new Jam Session album is now out. Their intriguing description:

It all looks awesome, and sounds even better. This record has been doomed, but we stared Satan in his eyes and told him we would not give up until we got this shit out. Since this needs to be heard. Great melodic breakdowns and then it just erupts into manic, furious assault.

In other Bridge news, the label also has plans to release a 7" from The Accidents, a band which features members from Voice of a Generation, or what they call "fyllepunkös". They also have a new 7" coming out from I Ren Desperation, a new crust-style band with members from Nine, Totalitär and Millencolin. That one's a joint release with Finland's Combat Rock and Hater of God in the US, so be sure to check it out.
