Night Minutes unveil "Grateful depression"

Night Minutes, the new band of ex-We Live in Trenches bassist Anna Knutsson and ex-Cut City bassist/vocalist Max J Hansson, have finally unveiled their new album "Grateful depression" and are offering it for paid digital download and free streaming preview. Check it: http://nightminutes.bandcamp.com/
It's more like CC than WLIT and far more shoegazey than either, but any fan of good music is strongly encouraged to check it out.

Håll käften, vad vill du!? add on the spice (video)

Håll käften, vad vill du!? and an international delegation of punkrockers (feat. Ulf Stöckel (We Live In Trenches), Shelby Cinca (Frodus, The Cassettes), Claudio Oyarzo (Minora) and Janne Hanhela (This Bleeding Man)) get busy in the studio. Expect the band to release their sophomore album soon.

We Live in Trenches to tour?

We Live in Trenches are planning to do some European dates in September; details tba.

Sounds Like Branding going worldwide

Slightly OT but not really: Jakob Lusensky's book "Sounds like branding" (with design by Robert Samsonowitz, who brews a great beer besides playing in We Live in Trenches) will be getting an international release in July: http://www.soundslikebranding.com/?p=2136
The book's subtitle is "How to use the power of music to turn customers into fans", in case that helps perk your interest.

MP3: We Live In Trenches - White knuckles

I make no secret of my allegiance to the sound of modern old-man hardcore. Give me a band full of dudes who are old enough to know better playing angry mid-tempo rock and chances are high I'll be stoked. And seeing as how We Live In Trenches just had a CD version of their album "Modern hex" released by , I figure it's due time I posted another track from them. I've actually been listening to the record a lot too, as I only semi-recently tracked down an affordable domestic copy of the vinyl and received a digital promo for easy gym-listening. Shame that bassist/vocalist Anna Knutsson recently parted ways with the guys though, as she provided a nice counterbalance to the male-dominance as well as a little something extra to distinguish them from other like-minded acts, but whatever -- life goes on and people gotta do their thing. Us guys still gotta blow off some steam as we age and get balder/fatter/slower/angrier.

We Live in Trenches minus one

Don't know why I didn't mention it last week when I first found out: bassist Anna Knutsson has parted ways with We Live in Trenches citing lack of time. There's no permanent replacement yet AFAIK, but Johan Meiton of Snakestorm has been filling in live.

MP3: Night Minutes - Sweetheart of the funeral

Night Minutes is the new project of the always-charming Max J Hansson of the soon-to-be-departed Cut City in which he collaborates with Ms. Anna Knutsson of the likewise-great/still-going-strong We Live in Trenches (who still need to send me mp3s of the album btw). While it is surely a shame that CC is going under, the prospect of Max playing in a far more actively active band is far more exciting. You see, Max lives in Göteborg and the rest of those dudes live down in Malmö... it's not that far, but far enough to cause complications. With Night Minutes there are no such issues, just quality JAMC-inspired jangle noise. The Raveonettes are an obvious point of comparison too, though Night Minutes' fuzzy sheen is more trve lo-fi in comparison to the Dane's well-manicured gloss. Anyhow, "Sweetheart of the funeral" is my favorite of the three songs off their forthcoming self-titled debut EP, due out soon via offshoot -- heavy on the girl group vibe, but not overselling it. The female/male vocal tradeoffs in combination with the cheap and raw organ tones make for quality noisepop, that's really all there is to it. It's easy to like and I'm immediately smitten.
