New Warvictims stuff on the way

Warvictims were back in the studio for the first time since 2009 recording some new tracks for an upcoming split 12" with Dropend; full details and a few video clips here.

MP3: Årabrot - The honour of silence

Without getting into their politics¹, I have to say that I just don't like Death in June. But I do like hearing people cover them. They are just one of those rare acts whose works are almost always improved upon by others and Årabrot's take on "The honour of silence" adds a crucial, austere heaviness that the original lacks. They take it a step further too, adding a 7-minute reprisal on the end of their new EP "Mæsscr", stretching it out into an endless parade of droning drums and wordless refrains. Go see them in UK next week, I'm sure it'll be killer:

08/25 – - Fat Out Fest, Manchester
08/26 - The Shakespear, Sheffield
08/28 - Colchester Arts Centre, Colchester
08/29 - The Black Heart, London

¹ see this blog for a detailed examination of DiJ's fascist/fence-sitting tendencies, along with many other neofolk/noise/black metal/provocateur artists

Johan Heltne working on a new album

Johan Heltne, one of my favorite artists of year's past, reports that he has started work on his next album. The working title: "Låt de döda begrava sina döda"/"Let the dead bury their own dead". As for the music, he says the first bits that have been recorded can be described as "kristet funkiga" while the overriding concept is "party music for adult singles."

Witchcraft - It's not because of you / Ghosts house

Somehow I've been snoozing on the fact that new Witchcraft tracks are now online. Seems a bit more polished/modern sounding than what's come before, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, though I reserve the right to change my opinion on that later.

Switchblade - Movement II

Head to The Sleeping Shaman to preview a full-length track off the upcoming Switchblade LP: http://www.thesleepingshaman.com/news/switchblade-premier-track-movement-ii-from-new-self-titled-album/
The new record is much more riff-oriented than the last one, almost kinda stoner-metal in a way, but still with plenty of doom.

Sudakistan - El movimiento (Teenhäze edit)

Latino garage punk from Sweden? Sure, why not? Actually quite a bit heavier than you might expect.
