Juni Järvi - (I love it when you call me) Baby (feat. Annika Norlin)

Listen to a YouTube preview of the brand new Juni Järvi single "(I love it when you call me) Baby", featuring guest vocals from Annika Norlin (Hello Saferide, Säkert!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPyiuXpN_hE
The official release date for said track is May 26 and it will be followed by the album "The gospel" in early September which will feature guest appearances from Markus Krunegård (Laakso) and others.

Oskar Schönning preps new album to feature lyrics by Annika Norlin

Swedish jazz bassist and band leader Oskar Schönning will release the new album "Belgrade tapes", his fourth, on March 1 via his own label. The album will feature live recordings from his band's trip to Serbia in August of 2007, as well as street recordings and other errata plus unsung lyrics composed by Annika Norlin (Hello Saferide, Säkert!). Says Oskar with regards to the words: "Jag har aldrig lyssnat på en låttext i hela mitt liv. Musiken dominerar texten på samma sätt som bilden dominerar musiken i film. Däremot har jag alltid lusläst booklets och låttexter. Särskilt Annika Norlins." (translate) Personally speaking, I completely relate. For locals, there will be a release party at Mosebacke in Stockholm on February 28.

Embee confirms new solo album, single

Swedish rapper Embee (Looptroop Rockers) has announced that his second solo album "The mellow turning moment" will be released on February 3, 2010 via Bad Taste Records and Looptroop's own label DVSG. The first single "A day at a time" (feat. Daniel Lemma) will be out later this month and other guests on the album include Annika Norlin (Hello Saferide/Säkert!), Maia Hirasawa, Nikola Sarcevic (Millencolin), Nina Ramsby, Mariam Wallentin (Wildbirds & Peacedrums), Håkan Svensson (Nationalteatern) and Fabian Kallerdahl (Music Music Music).

MNW turns 40

In addition to the 40th anniversary concert mentioned earlier, MNW is also releasing a book and 4CD collection for their birthday called "Ljud från Waxholm" featuring interviews, rare pictures, 250 album covers and 68 tracks from the label's history. As they say themselves, "från Björn Afzelius till Ebba Forsberg." The release date is October 14. And that's not all- they will also apparently be doing a few special anniversary reissues from their 70s back-catalogue and have also put together a tribute comp entitled "Retur Waxholm" featuring current artists covering classic MNW songs. That one comes out October 7 and here's the tracklist:

MP3: Hello Saferide - Anna

I wasn't completely lying yesterday, when I said I had no good new music to share. I have plenty, I just don't necessarily have permission to share it. However, lucky for you, Razzia Records has just given me the okay to post the new Hello Saferide single "Anna" and I have to say, I am grateful to do so. If you've seen HS live in the past year or two this song might sound familiar -- I remember hearing it at Way Out West last year and I would imagine that's not the only time it's been performed. Anyhow, it's an amazing tune and it emphasizes the HS I love dearly: the darker, more reserved side, the storyteller. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Annika's upbeat numbers too, but it's these slower tunes that give her depth and show her range and that's something that wasn't always apparent before her sideproject Säkert! came out. Had I heard "Anna" before "that lesbian song," all skepticism would have been erased immediately. Likewise, I think that other skeptics might be pleasantly surprised by this if they give it a chance. Hello Saferide has always been more than mere indiepop if you actually paid attention.

Look for the new Andreas Mattson-produced album "More modern short stories from..." to be released on September 24. Hot Stuff will be handling the vinyl this time, with a 7" version of "Anna" (+ an exclusive b-side) on the way as well.

Speaking of Säkert!, she's playing a "secret" show at Debaser in Stockholm on June 12 as a warm-up for Hultsfred. I'll already be at the fest by then, but maybe you can go?

MP3: Vincent Vicious - Vi lämnar allt

Too many things to do and not nearly enough time to do 'em all, so today's mp3 post belongs to Simon Tagestam:

Even though I love Säkert! to pieces, there's a minuscule bit of it that I find hard to stomach, namely the jolly chirpiness that seeps through on some of the songs (it's even more evident on Annika Norlin's other band/alter ego Hello Saferide's material). Frequent Norlin collaborator Maia Hirasawa has taken this one step further, hence I'm not a big fan of her music - it's way too pop, polished and happy-go-lucky for me. Now comes Vincent Vicious from Sweden and take this much despised chirpiness to a new level (they almost reach Eurovision levels) and it makes me sick to the bones. It sounds a lot like Raymond & Maria, who after one song become totally unbearable. I tried hard to like it since they're from my hometown and I can't think of a single good band that have come out of my hometown ... ever (although when I was about 7 years old I did indeed like Roxette). At least Vincent Vicious have got a lot of energy and are probably a riot live if you're into the kind of songs they play (ie. super cheese), and who knows, they might start a amazing band who will sing in Swedish at some point in the future!
