Top 10s for 2009: Daniel Söderberg (Great Northern Recordings)

10 good things that happened in 2009.

Moment: 8th of March. The birth of my son Frans Ivo. The most powerful dude in the world.

Bargain: Bathory - The Return, LP. I've been looking for the 1st press of this jewel for a couple of years and now I accidentally stumbled upon it at a second hand store for only 80 SEK. A lovely moment. Praise Allah, Jesus and all the rest.

Record: Funeral Mist - Maranatha. There are probably around 20 really good record releases this year and Funeral Mist is definitely one of them. Extremely harsh black metal with sloppy drums and strange vocals. Probably dDoesn't sound that good, but it's a black diamond.

Live show: Fever Ray. Laser lights, shamanism, smoke machines, repetitive electronic darkness. Karin Dreijer owned the music festival Way Out West.

Book: "Skugga-Baldur" by Sigurjón Birgir Sigurðsson. Icelandic folklore about a fox that couldn't be killed in any other way than with a knife. Lots of magic, ghosts and wicked spirits.

Comic book: "Watchmen" by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Discovered this one 23 years too late. Best comic book ever written. Dark, filthy and hypnotic.

Movie: "Låt den rätte komma in". Hoyte Van Hoytema is a god behind the camera. The best Swedish cinematographer in a long, long time.

TV series: "The Wire" by David Simon. Omar Little, Bubbs, Brother Mouzone, Lester, McNulty, Bodie, Snoop. Best police drama series ever.

Magazine: Filter. Long and penetrating articles about everything and nothing. Perfect for early mornings at the subway.

Daniel says: "2010 will be spent on an amazing thing called parental leave. Beside that I will work on a new, so far secret, project with friend and artist Ragnar Persson. Will also do something progressive with the metal club Blod och Svärd, which I am running with the legendary drummer Daniel "Bonden" Astgren. There might also be another Great Northern Recordings release this year."
