MP3: Sahara Hotnights - Oh Darling!

Despite their seemingly best effort at destroying their legacy, Sahara Hotnights' debut "C'mon let's pretend" still stands a fantastic album. Seriously, I cannot thing of another act with such a strong start whose career trajectory went totally downhill thereafter. For comparison, Weezer fell pretty damn far, but at least they released two fantastic albums first. Let's be honest: "Jennie bomb" is okay, but it is a picture-perfect sophomore slump. Anyhow, that's enough bad-mouthing. The band is still around and I'm holding onto the hope that they'll be able to turn it around with whatever they do next. Sahara Hotnights are one of the many bands I discovered during the heights of the Napster era, when every day meant being wowed by some new Swedish band. I was being turned on to so much good music at the time and spent a bundle importing CDs of all my favorites, SH ranking quite highly among them. Of course, I eventually started up this thing here and have been raking in the cash ever since (hah! yeah right!). Okay, back to the point: "C'mon let's pretend" is a great album, maybe even classic. Download "Oh darling!" and reminisce with me.

Sahara Hotnights report that they have about 20 or so news songs ready and are planning to start record their next album very soon.

Swedish female rockers Soak the Sin will finally release their debut full-length album "The work is done" on March 24 via Morphine Lane Records. For song samples and videos, go here: http://www.soakthesin.com/audio.html
Personally, I found the band slightly lacking when I saw them last year at Umeå Open, but I do like the recordings I've heard. It's kind of an obvious comparison, but they really do remind me of the first Sahara Hotnights album, but heavier.

Swedish showcase nights in Paris:

12/06 - La flêche d'or w/Kristofer Åström, Laakso, Sahara Hotnights
12/07 - Centre Culturel Suedois (11 Rue Payenne 75003 Paris) w/Kristofer Åström, Laakso

Sahara Hotnights got dropped by RCA. Er, uh, I mean they decided to go their separate ways. At least that's the way that management is spinning it: http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/noje/story/0,2789,703710,00.html (in Swedish)
Anyhow, even though the band is now without a label, they are still soldiering on and working on new material which they plan to release themselves.

In case you didn't already find out, Sator was the secret band at Hultsfred Festival this year. Various guests joined the band on stage including Moneybrother, Joppe Pihlgren (Docenterna), Nix Wahlberg (Nomads), Nina Natri (Fidget), Kent Norberg (Sator), Maria Andersson (Sahara Hotnights), Robert "Strängen" Dahlqvist (Hellacopters), Patrik Arve (Teddybears Sthlm), Bo Sundström and José González.
